Richmond boys fall in final

Brandon Wilcox converted a penalty kick with two minutes, 16 seconds left to play to lift Bangor Christian to a 2-1 win over Richmond for the boys Class D state soccer championship Saturday at Hampden Academy.
The Eastern Maine champion Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Zach Sirois put home a crossing pass from Brad Wilcox. Richmond carried play in the second half, but missed a chance to tie the game when Patriots goalie Tyler Alexander stopped Joey Scribellito’s penalty kick. The Bobcats tied the game with 11:22 when Tom Carter chipped a ball over the defense to Eric Murrin and he scored his 31st goal of the season.
Bruce Carver made seven saves for Richmond (13-3) while Alexander had 12 for Bangor Christian (16-2).
