Somber scene among same-sex marriage backersThe cautious optimism of same-sex supporters who gathered at Holiday Inn by the Bay Tuesday night turned into concern as the results swung to the Yes vote. While music continued to play from a DJ, there were concerned looks as couples hugged, held and cried while watching results. Portland couple Ray Dumont and Rodney Mondor said they appreciated the emotion and support of others Tuesday evening. Dumont said while the same-sex marriage law may fall, the world won't come to an end for their family. "We're not going away tomorrow, the sky's not gonna fall," he said. "We're still a family." Mondor, who counts himself as a veteran of many gay equality campaigns in Maine, said what they've learned is that educating Mainers and getting to know gay couples is what will ultimately make a difference in achieving marriage equality. As their 9-year-old son Ethan hugged his leg, Dumont said "the more people know us the more they'll realize we're just a family." Jesse Connolly, the campaign manager for No on 1, told the audience shortly before 12:30 a.m. that they knew the vote would be close and they would be watching and tracking votes all night. Standing in front of a group of supporters, some with red eyes, Connolly did not concede. He said they've got a growing base of supporters and the issue of equal marriage rights is not going away. "We'll be here, we'll be fighting, we will regroup," Connolly said. "This is about love, commitment and family. We'll stay the course." As the No on 1 leaders left the stage and the crowd looked around at each other, a representative from the Holiday Inn stepped on stage and said into the mic, "Ladies and gentlemen, we have to do last call at the bar. if you want a drink, get it now." The majority made their vote yesterday and stood by their Christian beliefs, personal beliefs, moral values, and family tradition. Unfortunately, I don't think this is the last we have heard from the bi-sexual & homosexual community & activists. I have a feeling this issue will be on future ballots. It's really too bad that issues are allowed to be raised again, and again, and again. There should be something in place to disallow that from happening or at least limit the amount of times in a certain period of time that an issue can be brought forth to vote on. It sure would be nice if this issue was simply put to sleep now that the voters have came forth and prevented this type of action from happening.
I wonder what the YES people think they have won ?
Some time ?
I wonder how many of them will find out at some point in the neat future they have Gay children. Wonder if that would change their small mind? Too bad religion has to disrupt so many lives in a negative way, but some things never change!
I'll always support the logical voice...it's nice to know that 48% of Mainers are secure with themselves.

The work goes on.
The cause endures.
The hope still lives
And the dream shall never die.
i love it when moonbats don't get their way
Gay marriage in maine will be legal soon, it's just a matter of time. Maine is one of the oldest age wise states in the nation. The majority of old people voted against legalizing gay marriage. in 5 to 10 years these people will be gone and more open minded people will have become of voting age. The only people who should be disappointed are people who want it legalized now. It will be legalized and the people who voted yes shouldn't be to excited. The fact is 10 years ago gay marriage wouldn't have even received 10% of the vote, You guys got 47% of the vote only 6% away. Social change takes time, just look how far medical marijuana has come.
you firmly believe wrong. please take your christian/religion bashing elsewhere. and by your reasoning, we should be voting on approving polygamy, too. why don't you think that one over.
And I imagine that you, Common Sense, are going to be spearheading a campaign to bring back the procecution of aldulterers? Maybe we can make them spend the rest of their lives walking around with a big scarlet A on their chests (the women only, of course).
The bible states that many, many, many things (at certain POINTS IN TIME) were deemed by God to be a sin. Eating meat, adultery (actually, you only have to WANT to bang your neighbors wife according to the ten commandments!), sodomy (which certainly includes some forms of HETEROSEXUAL intimacy as well), etc.
Gotta love how man thinks he can pick and chose which parts of the bible to obey.
